How to Complete Hide and Seek: Extreme Weekly Challenges in Phasmophobia

Published:

Every Monday Phosmophobia progresses through one of 26 different weekly tasks that can be completed in challenge mode. These challenges force players to hunt ghosts using a different set of rules and a selected set of starting items than usual.

One like that Phosmophobia the challenge is hide and seek: extreme. This particular task is considered one of the most tough in the entire game due to its brutal set of rules on a compact map.

The official Hide and Seek: Extreme challenge description reads: “This ghost wants to play a game, you better hide.” This is ironic, considering you have to complete it at Camp Woodwind, where there are very few places to hide. The goal here is theoretically elementary: guess the type of ghost at Camp Woodwind three times.

You’ll be guessing the ghost using a series of tricky rule modifiers, making it much more tough than the professional level. These are:

  • 0% starting Sanity
  • 1 minute preparation time before the ghost starts hunting you
  • There is no way to restore Sanity, making hunts unavoidable after 1 minute
  • The fuse box turns on automatically on start-up
  • The cursed Monkey’s Paw item is available for employ every time
  • Ghost speed is set to 150%

You’ll also be doing this with severely circumscribed equipment, with a mix of level 1 and 2 items to lend a hand you solve the puzzle. If you fail, you won’t lose these items, so don’t worry too much about dying in the process. Check out the full set of items below:

  • Level 1: Headgear, igniter, motion sensor, campfire airy, parabolic microphone, salt, sound sensor, ghost writing notebook and video camera
  • Level 2: Crucifix, EMF reader, camera, spirit, thermometer, DOTS projector and tripod
  • Lost: Mental health medications, incense, UV airy and a flashlight

If you can guess the ghost, enter three times PhosmophobiaHide and Seek: Extreme challenge, you will be rewarded with $5000 and 5000 XP. A worthy reward for this particular endeavor.

How to Complete Phasmophobia Hide and Seek: Extreme Challenge

Theoretically, you could enter the Hide and Seek: Extreme challenge, randomly guess the ghost type, leave immediately, and hope for the best. However, you have to guess three times correctly, and on each shot one in 24, this would be extremely time-consuming and there is technically no guarantee that you will ever get it right.

Unfortunately, you endure the pain of challenge best, even if you fail a few times. Here are some tips.

My first piece of advice is to do this challenge in co-op. Even if you die, correctly guessing the ghost type still counts toward progress in the challenge. However, dying solo Phosmophobia means the game is over, so adding a few friends to your team greatly increases your chances of success.

While the ghost is hunting here, circle around the central area of the map. The ghost’s 150% speed makes this very tough to avoid, but there are enough items inside to make it possible. At 0% Sanity, these hunts will appear frequently, so don’t be surprised!

In terms of equipment setup, I recommend something that will allow you to collect as much evidence as possible from the safety of your van. Due to the frequency of hunting, in the Hide and Seek: Extreme challenge you want to spend as little time in camp as possible. For example, a video camera (orbs) with a DOTS projector set up, as well as a Spirit Writing Book. Throw a thermometer in there too and stop by from time to time to check for evidence of freezing temperatures.

My final piece of advice is to guess when you only have two pieces of evidence. This may seem strange, but the lack of UV airy can make this extremely tough if you’re looking for evidence. Just cut your losses after finding two pieces of evidence and try again if your guess is wrong.
