If you play Baldur’s Gate 3 on a gaming PC, you control the camera using selection keys on your keyboard and a few HUD buttons that you can click with your mouse. The game offers a pretty good tutorial on how to apply the camera every time you start a fresh game, but it doesn’t tell you everything, so here’s a more detailed description.

  • W/S/D/W Keys – The W/S/D/W keys can be used to move the camera around the immediate area. If this doesn’t suit you, you can do it using the arrow keys.
  • Q and E Keys – The Q and E keys allow you to rotate the camera in a circle. You can also do this by holding down the middle mouse button.
  • Page Up and Page Down keys – The Page Up and Page Down keys are used to zoom in and out of the camera. This can also be done by rotating the middle mouse button or clicking the zoom in and out buttons next to the map.
  • O Key – Press O to enter tactical view. T allows you to view your surroundings from the top down. This view is great for combat situations, allowing you to get a bird’s-eye view of the action to spot hidden enemies and see if the terrain will block your attacks.

Once you are familiar with these key commands, your Promthere will be a Dur’s Gate 3 journey as cinematic as it is fun to play.

Edge Panning is an additional camera option that allows you to pan the camera by moving the mouse along the edge of the screen. This is a great option if you don’t want to apply the A/S/D/W or arrow keys to move the camera.

To enable edge shifting, open “Options” menu and scroll down to “Gameplay” strap. You should see Edge Shift as the second option in the Camera section. If you apply edge sliding and have a multi-screen setup, I recommend switching Lock Mouse to Window to “On” so that your mouse doesn’t switch when you jump to another screen.

Controlling a camera with a controller is completely different than controlling a camera with a mouse and keyboard, but it’s still basic to understand.

  • Clicking the left control stick up, down, left and right will move the camera left, right, up and down.
  • Tilt the right control stick left and right to rotate the camera.
  • Moving the right stick up and down allows you to zoom in and out.
  • Press the left stick to point the camera at your character if they ever move away from you.
  • Zooming out completely with the right stick will take you to tactical view. Zoom in again to get out of it.
