How Elder Dragon Captures Work in Monster Hunter Now

First introduced in the June 2024 Dancing in the Tempest update with the arrival of Kushala Daora, Captures are a combination of in-game hunting events and PokemonGoraids where hunters join forces to kill a sporadic, powerful creature.

How do Elder Dragon captures work in Monster Hunter Now?

Similar to Hunt-a-Thons, Elder Dragon Captures are events that appear on the map at collection points for a restricted time. To start, arrive at the meeting before the time runs out.

In battle, the key difference with Elder Dragon Intercepts is the health bar is divided into two parts. If you make it halfway through (the “repulsion” phase), you will receive monster parts even if you don’t complete the rest of the encounter. Additionally, you will still receive the reward if you only manage to get around 20% of your overall health bar.

Time limit to capture the Elder Dragon are longer than most battleswith each of the two phases lasting approximately 75 seconds, which likely explains the greater difficulty of the encounter.

Finally, similar to Hunt-a-thons, solo players who enter the Elder Dragon Capture will have matchmaking; just wait in the lobby when you first join until it is filled with other players. They will also have the so-called cooldown 180 minutesunless you purchase and redeem an Ultra Hunting ticket in the in-game store.

For those novel to Monster Hunter, Elder Dragons are some of the rarest and most powerful creatures in the game – described by Niantic as “monsters that have existed since ancient times and possess characteristics beyond human knowledge.”

Otherwise PokemonGoLegendary, outside of events that debut the Elder Dragon, Captures will rotate through the list of previously released monsters.
