Hidetaka Miyazaki’s five pieces of advice for the director of Elden Ring: Nightreign probably sum up his own ethos better than any of us ever could

Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki takes a backseat to Nightreign, but he has some solid advice for the spin-off director.

FromSoftware has been somewhat of a Miyazaki company for a while now, but things slowly seem to be changing again, as with last year’s Armored Core 6 and now with the upcoming Elden Ring spin-off, Nightreign. This cooperative version of Elden Ring was directed by Junya Ishizaki, who is no stranger to the Souls series, considering he has been with FromSoft since the first Dark Souls and spoke with Computer gamerhe talked about how he took on the role, as well as the advice Miyazaki gave him while creating the game. “The original proposal to become a director came from Miyazaki-san,” Ishizaki shared.

The director explained that Miyazaki told him that “it’s about time you tried your hand at directing,” which was convenient considering Ishizaki “had some ideas he was cooking” that “got greenlit” by Miyazaki after being shared their. When asked if Ishizaki received any specific advice from Miyazaki about taking the director’s reins (pun intended), Ishizaki replied, “The only thing that sticks out is that he basically said, ‘do it however you want’ with this project,” which he also noted that it “absolutely” boosted his confidence.

These five words are probably the best summary of Miyazaki’s ethos as a game designer, considering how lax these games can be creatively, despite being very well balanced. Who would have thought that an artist who can do more or less what he likes can produce fascinating results!

Nightreign is currently scheduled to launch on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series January 10, so keep your eyes peeled on Bandai Namco and FromSoft’s social media sites as soon as that date is announced.
