Hey, Helldivers 2’s Latest Patch Takes on “Excessive Ragdolling,” Ineffective Flamethrowers, and Inescapable Tentacles

Published:

Good news for anyone who’s been unhappy with the state of Helldivers 2 since the Escalation of Freedom update: a recent patch has been released, and it’s apparently Arrowhead’s first step toward fixing all of its issues.

If you haven’t been up to date, the studio has previously outlined a 60-day roadmap to support get the game back to the status most players expect it to be. At first glance, this update is definitely a step in the right direction.

As described in notes for patch 01.001.004the biggest changes she proposes are aimed at improving several areas that vocalists have recently reported issues with.

For example, Arrowhead “reduced the blast radius of the tentacle sting and light rocket abilities.” “This should alleviate excessive ragdolling caused by Impaler and Automaton enemies using light rockets,” he explained, “We’re still working on improving ragdoll behavior overall.”

Another fix that will likely see some traction is one that should make the flamethrower particles no longer ignore enemies, which will hopefully allow for more effective insect grilling, even though Arrowhead is still working on a fix to prevent the flamethrower from firing through chain link fences.

Then there’s a fix for “a bug where the Impaler’s tentacles could chase you indefinitely in some cases,” which sounds both terrifying and hilarious, as well as a ton of disaster scenarios. You can also now shoot mines to blow them up if they’re “near a dangerous object.”

Finally, as usual, Arrowhead mentioned a few issues he’s still working on, including enemies that bleed out without contributing to Personal Order progress or causing damage in missions, and Yellow Titans that sometimes don’t take damage from headshots.
