1994’s Heretic: Shadow of the Serpent Riders and its continuation from 1995, Hexen: Beyond Heretic Forged New Frontiers in the first person’s shooting games. Experience these key games with Heretic + Hexen, cooperation between ID software and night studies, bringing the improved release of the legendary Raven Software games of the recent generation of players.
From demonic science fiction to dim fantasy
“As one of the original programmers in the 90s, it is honest that Heretic and Hexen are coming back in this way,” says Brian Raffel, co -founder of the studio and co -chairman Raven Software. “We built these games on a strongly modified engine (1993) and tried to cross borders wherever we could, adding things such as character classes, inventory systems, vertical aiming … Things that were quite wild for now.
“We were also lucky that we worked with our friends from ID Software, especially John Romero and John Carmack. Their support and engine technology gave us a chance to build something else. There is something cool in knowing that these worlds still mean something for people after so many years.”
Players set off on a journey through the rooms full of monsters, arenas full of traps and Arcane Kingdom in a unique mix of classic FPS fight with Dungeon Deleving inspired by fantasy roles.
“Both Heretic and Hexen come from this kind of fantasy, which was common in PC games from the 80s and 90s, but they have not yet been examined in a first person shooter,” divides Mike Rubits, a senior programmer at ID Software. “There were many shooters with war, science fiction and aliens, but few panties and wands.”
“In fact, Romero’s idea was to add character classes in Hexen – a movement that really moved the franchise to a higher level,” says Raffel. “At that time, this kind of RPG in FPS was almost unheard of. Each class had its own weapon, statistics and the style of play – this mix of fantastic roles mechanics was risky, but it worked. He helped highlight Hexen from everything else and made the world richer and more personal. I think that this is a big part of this why people still remember.”
The Heretic + Hexen functions include local multiplayer modes with a division and a multiplayer, the option of switching the “Tome Power” soundtrack with Andrew Hulshult, completely recent options for availability and improvement of the quality of life, behind -the -scenes materials in chestnut and more. That’s not all: except for previously released expansion packages for the original edition, Heretic + Hexen also has completely recent content!
New contents of heretic + hexen
“Two new episodes in Heretic + Hexen Cover Both games -” Faith Rened “is a new heretical episode, while in Hexen he created the” world “, explains Rubits. “They followed them in the spirit of recent episodes in our previous re-editions: a completely recent experience that uses the original technology, but is not associated with running on 30-year-old computers with a very diminutive amount of memory.”
“During the planning phases, we came to the conclusion that we would have only one or the other,” says Xaser Acheron, a senior programmer at Nightive Studios, “and it occurred to me that they are one of the fastest maps in the West.”
“I already knew that there would be additional content Heretic + Hexen, so I started making maps in my spare time for fun,” adds Samuel “Kaiser” Villarreal, a level designer at Studios Nightdive Studios. “Before all this matter was green, I had almost the entire episode of maps.”
“Indeed, every mapping produced almost the entire episode of content alone, and the legend of the community did not contribute to several giant maps to complement the set. I also have to slip in one of my,” says Xaser. “Gambit paid off, but in retrospect, this is not really a surprise, because these people are absolute powers.”
