Here’s a free miniature model of a city with trams from the creator of Viewfinder

Sometimes I want to play a video game, and sometimes I just want to build a tranquil Dutch town with iron bridges, fountains, and little trams that spin like bumblebees. The project in question is TramstertramBesides being a horrific example of a pun, it’s a browser-based building toy from Matt Stark, creator of the truly adorable Viewfinder.

Released a few hours ago, Tramstertram features a rotating 3D scene with a selection of tiles to place – townhouses, streets, tram tracks and parks that all merge into larger structures when placed together. It’s a tribute to Townscaper, but not as elaborate, just a little gift left on a digital windowsill for any passerby who, for some reason, might need to lose a few minutes enjoying the sight of a tram sparking and rolling along a row of trees.

Tramstertram features a miniature selection of prefabricated cities, including a fourth map that reveals the alchemy behind the tile combinations, and the ability to copy and paste the world code to share your creation. If trams aren’t your thing, Stark has plenty of experience with that sort of thing. He’s created similar building toys, including tree houses, aquariumsAND Mining carts.

A nice note to end the week on, I guess? If you need a little more meat on those bones, keep an eye out for Tiny Glade’s “whimsigoth” cottage builder due out later this year – Kiera loved it.
