Helldivers 2 players struggle with the realization that they should have anticipated the brutal Major Order

Published:

Players in Hell Divers 2 they seemed to have it uncomplicated when developer Arrowhead Game Studios issued them a Major Order to kill an absurd amount of Terminds. Considering the community slaughtered 100 million in just 3 hours a few weeks ago, that’s not impressive.

However, that Major Order glitch that simply required players to smash Helldiver bodies into Terminid scum for hours should have been a sign of things to come. With the all-new Major Order now featuring Automata extending evacuation times with orbital cannons, players have figured out where they went wrong and why they should never again succumb to the sense of security that Terminid targets provide.

Killing that many Terminids generates a lot of oil. That oil is used to power Superdestroyers and transport Helldivers around the galaxy. So when we got a current Major Order to take over five planets from the bots after killing enough bugs to power a million Superdestroyers, everything finally clicked for players.

At the top Hell Divers 2 subredditplayers now put two and two together. User ArtZen_pl explains the obvious: “Order to the worms: kill the worms. Order to the bots: yes, you must liberate 5 gl planets.” Following on from this, user Artanis137 hits the nail on the head of what everyone already understood. “It’s canon that we kill these worms to collect the E710 they produce when they die. So most of the main orders on the Terminid front are about collecting more E710 for major offensives on both the Terminid and Automaton fronts. It’s hard to fight a war without fuel and resources.”

Although insect repellent oil has always been the canon in Hell Divers universe, the connection we all now see between the orders to kill a huge number of Terminids before dealing with the massive Automaton Major Order, is another way that a active story informs the game’s systems. It all fills out the galaxy and makes it feel more actual, even if it’s little more than flavor text and excuses meant to make you feel like you have a reason to fight the opposing factions.

Players were surprised that these Major Orders were alternately incredibly uncomplicated and so incredibly complex that they required worldwide coordination to complete. A Major Order every now and then definitely wouldn’t hurt, but I think we all know we’ll keep playing, no matter how impossible the odds seem.
