Helldivers 2 players seem to be pretty nippy with Arrowhead first adopting Warbond strategies, provided he gets a ton of free firepower

Yesterday, Helldivers 2 creator Arrowhead revealed the next Warbond coming to the game, Chemical Agents, which is expected to generate a lot of interest when it releases on September 19th.

Part of this latest Warbond are a couple of strategy variants – the TX-41 Sterilizer and the AX/TX-13 ‘Guard Dog’ Dog Breath – with this being the first time Arrowhead has decided to include them in Warbond, rather than just offering the usual two recent primary weapons. How do players feel about this? Well, pretty good, it seems.

As reported yesterday, Arrowhead confirmed the change in a blog post detailing Chemical Agents, writing, “Adding strategy variants to Warbonds is new to Chemical Agents, but our designers felt that since the gas is a crowd control tool, it made more sense to release the strategy and let Helldivers choose the primary weapon they like the most. Not only that, but it also adds some serious variety to Chemical Agents, which we hope players will enjoy.”

Given how much Arrowhead and many hardcore Helldivers 2 players argued over the balance update for the game’s various weapons and strategies, this looked like it could lead to another conflict. But unless it signals the beginning of a broader change, the Super Earth Soldiers Reddit users generally don’t mind.

“I don’t want EVERY new strategy to be in warbond, but one or two new bond-themed ones are fine, maybe not every time warbond comes out, but I’m not going to complain about new toys either unless they don’t work or crash my game,” reads one of the top-rated comments in a popular thread discussing the issue, with another player adding, “Until they start introducing generic strategies, I’m glad they have some extra levers to pull.”

“Every strategy being in a warbond is not good for the health of the game,” wrote another diver, “HOWEVER, thematic strategies that are essentially variants of existing strategies for a thematic warbond like this seem to be not only appropriate, but a much better option, since it’s not always easy to balance a flashy strategy with a non-strategy weapon. That really sells the power.”

Many players have noted that this is similar to what was done in the original Helldivers game and that it was implemented in a way that players appreciated in that game.
