Warner Bros. Games has announced the closure of mobile game Harry Potter: Magic Awakened just over a year after its global launch.
Harry Potter: Magic Awakened, a collectible card RPG game developed by Zen Studio, released in the West in June 2023 courtesy of Portkey Games by Warner Bros. Games. In the game, you take on the role of a recent Hogwarts student and collect cards that you operate as spells in duels.
Harry Potter: Magic Awakened was removed from the iOS App Store and Google Play Store on August 26. The servers will be down until October 29, 2024. In-game purchases are no longer available at this time.
It will be released in Asia by Chinese gaming company NetEase, which is currently in the headlines for allegedly shutting down Visions of Mana developer Ouka Studios. Despite its closure in the West, Harry Potter: Magic Awakened will remain available to play in Asia.
“We have shared the magical journey of Harry Potter: Magic Awakens with millions of fans around the world,” Warner Bros. said in a statement released to its publisher. support page.
“The time has come for Harry Potter: Magic Awakened to officially close its servers in the Americas, Europe, and Oceania on October 29, 2024. The game will continue to be available to players in Asia, including Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan, as well as other select territories in Asia and MENA.
“We’d like to thank everyone in the Americas, Europe and Oceania for playing, and we’re incredibly proud and honored that so many fans around the world enjoyed Harry Potter: Magic Awakened with such enthusiasm and passion.”
Players have already expressed their disappointment with the news, requested refunds, and called on Warner Bros. to allow NetEase to publish the game in the West or allow for a server transfer. Warner Bros. has ruled out server transfers and refunds in its FAQ and declined to comment when contacted by IGN about the possibility of NetEase taking the game over in the West.
It’s worth noting that Harry Potter: Magic Awakened’s closing comes ahead of the launch of Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions, a recent game based on the fictional sport that will be available on September 3 for PC and consoles.
