Harry Potter made its way to Fortnite as Hogwarts Legacy offered for free on the Epic Games Store

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is coming to Fortnite as Epic Games is offering Hogwarts Legacy for free in the PC store.

As announced last night at The Game Awards 2025, Hogwarts Legacy is now available for free download on the Epic Games Store until December 18 at 11:00 a.m. Eastern time. Shortly after the announcement, users reported that the store was having difficulty loading – many attributing these problems to the flood of would-be wizards rushing to grab their copy.

According to Epic Games, anyone who has played more than two hours of Hogwarts Legacy by December 18 will receive a Chocolate Frog backpack in Fortnite. And this isn’t the only Harry Potter content coming to Battle Royale.

While Harry Potter himself doesn’t seem to be giving it a go for now, Fortnite skins featuring characters in Hogwarts robes will go on sale later this month. These outfits will be customizable, so you’ll be able to dress as a student in any of the Hogwarts houses: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, or even Hufflepuff.

Harry Potter content coming to Fortnite is no surprise – fans following the game’s files have previously hinted at collaborations in the near future, and expect broomsticks to become mythical items during the game’s upcoming annual Winterfest celebrations.

Additionally, Harry Potter is the latest in a long line of Warner Bros. characters to appear in the game after publisher Multiversus’ own attempt at a live-action service shut down.

Familiar faces from DC and Adventure Time have been in Fortnite for some time, but in recent months they have been joined by the Scooby-Doo Gang, Beetlejuice and Jason Vorhees – all former Multiversus veterans. Will we see more characters next year, like those from Game of Thrones, Gremlins, and Looney Tunes? Time will tell.

“In almost every respect, Hogwarts Legacy is the Harry Potter RPG I’ve always wanted to play,” IGN wrote in our Hogwarts Legacy review, giving the game a 9/10.
