Valve’s creative shooter Half-Life 2 is now two decades elderly, and to celebrate, the company has released a modern documentary along with a massive update to the game itself.

Half-Life 2 launched on November 16, 2004. Now, 20 years later, Valve has updated its groundbreaking first-person shooter and added modern features, fixed elderly bugs, improved some visual effects, added more options, and integrated the Steam Workshop into the classic game. And if you somehow don’t have it Half-Life 2well, it’s free to download on the weekend.

Perhaps the biggest novelty in the 2004 shooter as part of this update is this it The Lost Coast (compact free side game), Episode 1, AND Episode 2 are now included as part of the whole Half-Life 2 package so you can play all these games Half-Life 2.

Speaking of The Lost Coastever since Valve launched this little experience, they’ve been including developer comments in their games. However, Half-Life 2 this feature was missing and has been fixed in this update. Valve gathered the entire team again and recorded almost 4 hours of commentary for the FPS. They also made a vast documentary about Half-Life 2 AND I spilled the beans Episode 3also development and cancellation.

Another vital feature included in this update, in addition to improved gamepad control and auto-aim, is the inclusion of Steam Workshop support. This will make it easier than ever to add modern levels, weapons and mods to this highly customizable PC game. Basically, there are 20 years of modifications that can now be brought into the workshop and accessed more easily than ever.

Valve has also updated a lot of smaller parts Half-Life 2including fixing elderly bugs, adding modern blood splatter graphic options, tweaking HDR settings, and more. Fortunately, if you don’t like these changes or have a mod based on an elderly version, Valve won’t remove the OG HL2 from Steam. You can still download it and enjoy all the mods and elderly memories.

Best of all, Valve made this game Half-Life 2 (which currently covers all Episodes) completely free of charge for the next three days. You have until November 18 to win Half-Life 2 on Steam for $0 and you should. It’s one of the best games ever made, and the mods alone will keep you busy for the next 20 years.

If this seems familiar, it’s because in November 2023 Valve did a similar substantial anniversary update to the original Half-life to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the franchise. Next in line Portal was released in 2007. I hope Valve has some fun planned for this anniversary too!
