Thank the gods, it’s Hades 2 update day, and the developers at Supergiant aren’t beating around the bush. In this “Olympic Update,” they’ve beefed up the snappy roguelike game with a ton of shiny up-to-date stuff, including a up-to-date weapon with homing attacks, a liver-pecking boss fight, two up-to-date animal familiars, and the home of the Gods, Mount Olympus. This is probably the biggest update they’ve made as far as fresh sights go. And by “fresh views” I mean Dionysus in a leopard thong. Yes.
Chief among the changes is the up-to-date region, Olympus, which looks appropriate, full of marble statues and ionic columns, if suspiciously grim. The up-to-date weapon is called the Black Cloak and can fire multiple bullet-like bullets at enemies or be used to perform damage-blocking counter-attacks. Your two up-to-date animal companions will be Raki the raven and Hecuba the dog, who seem to be able to dig holes for you instead of the usual shovel. Yes, you can pet the dog. Don’t make Frinos the frog jealous now.
If you’re wondering how much this update has advanced the plot, we’re told there are now 2,500 up-to-date voice lines and “expanded subplots” for some characters like Arachne, the spider girl, and Dora, the cordial ghost. However, the up-to-date substantial event in this regard is probably the appearance of Prometheus, the Titan who created humans from clay and then stole fire from the gods to give it to humanity. You’ll fight him as a boss and probably learn a little about his motivations. The eagle that feeds on your liver daily also looks for extra protein in your face.
Like I said, this is an absolutely massive update. You will be able to decorate your center on Crossroads. Many hexes and memorabilia have been improved. There are up-to-date portraits of Charon, Medea and Hades, among others. And while Olympus is a substantial up-to-date heated spot, there are also some up-to-date locations popping up in existing regions, we’re told. I won’t even try to summarize the many, many changes in benefits and blessings. Just know that some up-to-date goodies have appeared, others have been changed, and a few have been removed.

The supergiant even recorded it 26-minute “dramatic reading” changes, featuring Logan Cunningham, Homer’s voice actor and the studio’s vocal showcase. This sounds like the most niche way to listen before bed.
In our Early Access review, I found Hades 2’s swift pace and witty conversations to be a lot of fun. But I didn’t go back to it very often. Maybe this update will convince me to check out my favorite rival, Nemesis. According to these patch notes, “she is less fast at rough running through exits; it’s harder for her to buy items from Charon.” Oh, I’ve always liked that about her.
