GTA Trilogy studio head says it’s a “damn move” to take away game credits from developers after the release of Rockstar’s long-awaited update

The head of GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition responded on social media to the latest changes introduced to the game by Rockstar.

This week, Rockstar released a surprise update to the much-criticized game The definitive edition of the GTA trilogy on PC and consoles almost two years after the last one. The patch added a number of graphical elements that were exclusive to the mobile versions, which pleased dissatisfied fans of the groundbreaking open-world games.

GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition, a compilation of 2001’s Grand Theft Auto 3, 2002’s Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and 2004’s Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, sparked backlash upon its 2021 release on PC and consoles. IGN GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition review returned 5/10. We said: “GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition is flawed, disappointing, and surprisingly disrespectful to three classic games and their large fan bases.”

GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition was developed by Grove Street Games, which faced criticism at the time due to the penniless quality of the release. The mobile versions were developed by the Australian studio Video Games Deluxe LA Noire VR case files.

After this week’s update went live, users noticed that Grove Street Games and its logo had been removed from the GTA Trilogy main menu and splash screen. Now the PC and console versions overlap with the mobile versions, showing Rockstar as the creator of GTA.

It was to this removal that Thomas Williamson, head of Grove Street Games, clearly reacted in a thinly veiled tweet.

“To put it hypothetically, cutting off core developers from credits in an update is an idiotic move, especially when the update includes hundreds of fixes provided by developers who have remained out of reach of players for years” – Williamson he tweeted.

While Williamson’s dissatisfaction with recent events is obvious, Grove Street Games and Williamson himself remain in the GTA Trilogy credits, as many X/Twitter users have pointed out.

This is an unpleasant end to GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition, which has been controversial since its release. Rockstar was forced to apologize for the state of the collection at the time of release and even offered free games to PC players as compensation.

Still, the collection seemed to have it sold very well despite problems, and Strauss Zelnick – CEO of Take-Two, Rockstar’s parent company he called these problems a “glitch” that has been “resolved.”
