Godfall Team Counterplay Games has seemingly shut down

Counterplay Games, the developer of the PS5 game Godfall, appears to have gone out of business, according to fresh LinkedIn posts reporting layoffs and closures in the gaming industry. Counterplay Games has reportedly been shut down along with Toadman Interactive and Freejam, with the former being best known for Immortal: Unchained and the latter being a free PC title called Robocraft.

PlayStation Lifestyle I did some research and discovered that the studio had been “dissolved” last month after working with Jackalyptic Games on the project. “Unfortunately, we were unable to continue our cooperation in the new year and CPG was dissolved,” the employee wrote.

Best known for being the first game confirmed for PS5 at Game rewards in 2019, the final product did not live up to the initial wave of emotions caused by its announcement. WITH Metacritical rating 61, we were slightly less impressed than others, giving us a rating of 5/10 Godfall PS5 review.

We concluded: “If everything Godfall had to offer was as good as its satisfying combat system, we’d be looking at one hell of a PS5 game. But in reality, that’s the only thing it can boast about. An irrelevant loot system, recycled environments, and a frustrating mission structure ruin any enjoyment the game may have to offer.

The game later received a PS4 version, removing some of the shine from the original announcement that was the huge current-gen PS5 offering. Were you a fan of Godfall? Mourn the loss of Counterplay Games in the comments below.
