Get ready for novel versions of Assassin’s Creed, says Ubisoft CEO, and everyone, including moms, starts chanting Black Flag

Good news for longtime fans of the game who want to give up at least one finger so they can run across rooftops and jump on unsuspecting guards, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot says Assassin’s Creed remakes are coming. Yes, there’s a chance one of them will be a game that includes all the pirate goodness.

While our current focus at AC is Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which will take us all to feudal Japan in November, where we’ll play as a pair of nippy heroes with different playstyles, we all love replaying things we’ve played before and reliving how much we liked them. Something that Ubisoft seems to be well aware of.

In an interview with, um, UbisoftUbisoft CEO Yves Guillemot confirmed that some AC remakes are coming, though he didn’t say which games in the series are actually in line for such treatment. “First of all, players can be excited about some remakes,” he revealed in response to a question about the future of the series, “which will allow us to go back to some of the games we’ve made in the past and modernize them; “There are worlds in some of our older Assassin’s Creed games that are still incredibly rich.”

“Secondly, to answer your question, there will be a lot of variety in the experience,” Guillemot continued. “The goal is to have Assassin’s Creed games come out more often, but not the same every year. There are a lot of good things coming out, including Assassin’s Creed Hexe, which we announced, which will be a very different game from Assassin’s Creed Shadows. I think we’ll surprise people.

So there you go. When it comes to which games are suitable for a remake, the only potential frontrunner we have is: My city a report from last year that claimed that a team at Ubisoft Singapore — the studio behind Skull and Bones — was working on a remake of AC IV: Black Flag.

The report stated that the project is “still in its early stages and won’t be completed for at least a few years” and, if true, will only involve one remake, which leaves open dreams of other AC remakes for now, as Guillemot spoke of multiple remakes in the interview.

So here you go. If you want to learn more about Assassin’s Creed Shadows, be sure to check out the 12-minute gameplay trailer that dropped during this year’s massive Ubisoft Forward summer event.
