Shortly after the release of the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, George RR Martin announced the development of an Elden Ring movie or television series.
In the post about him blogthe Game of Thrones author wrote about winning the awards, strongly suggesting that an adaptation of FromSoftware’s masterpiece is indeed in the works.
“Oh, and as for the rumors you may have heard about a feature film or TV series based on Elden Ring… I have nothing to say,” he said. “Not a word, no, nothing, I don’t know anything, you’ve never heard a word from me, mom, mom, mom. What rumors?”
As George R.R. Martin stated in a blog post, the notable fantasy author “built the world” of Elden Ring, while FromSoftware boss Hidetaka Miyazaka and his team “did the rest.” Now, it looks like an Elden Ring movie or TV series is indeed in the works, and George R.R. Martin will likely be involved in some way.
An Elden Ring movie has often been floated as a possibility, with fans wondering how it could be adapted. Miyazaki himself recently revealed that he would be open to adapting the 25 million-selling action RPG game in 2022, but only if there was a “very strong partner” involved.
“I see no reason to deny another interpretation or adaptation of Elden Ring, for example a film,” Miyazaki explained in an interview with Guardian. “But I don’t think that neither I nor FromSoftware have the knowledge or skills to create something in another medium.”
“So this is where a very strong partner would come into play,” Miyazaki continued. “We would have to build a lot of trust and agreement on what we want to achieve, but there is definitely interest.”
Shadow of the Erdtree, meanwhile, sold incredibly well, selling five million copies in just three days. IGN’s Shadow of the Erdtree review gave it a 10/10. We said, “Like the base game before it, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree raises the bar for single-player DLC expansions. It takes everything that made the base game such a groundbreaking RPG, condenses it into a relatively tight 20-25 hour campaign, and provides some fantastic new challenges for dedicated fans.”
