During a January 10 interview with Japanese gaming site Game*Spark during the ongoing Consumer Electronics Show (CES), a Genki representative he admitted no one at the company has actually seen the Switch 2 yet. The dimensions of the physical replica they showed off at CES 2025 and the digital render on the website were only based on other leaks currently circulating in the industry.
This confession comes a few hours after Nintendo shared a statement With CNET Japan claiming it did not give Genki advance access to any upcoming hardware.
The last few weeks have been a whirlwind of second- and third-hand information about what the Switch 2 will look like and what it will be able to do. And while Genki may have stretched the truth about the extent of access, that doesn’t necessarily mean the facts he was working with were complete nonsense.
We have a leak for you: Switch 2 is real and Nintendo will probably announce it soon. Until then, let’s be a little more selective about the type of information we share at any given time of day, because a cottage industry of video game insiders will always be looking for the next clout to produce jaw-dropping social media posts and YouTube thumbnails.
