Chances Half-Life: Alyx its arrival on PSVR2 was unparalleled even just a few months after Sony’s headset was released, so any hopes at this point should be completely extinguished. However, Zulubo Productions’ Vertigo 2 may at least scratch the itch that Valve doesn’t want to touch. This FPS emulates the experience of Half-Life 1 with a campaign spanning labs and office areas to alien environments, while still providing a solid shooter experience.

Combining puzzle and gunplay into what at times feels like something of a… John Wick Vendetta Forever simulator is a game of flow and boy does it. From a first-person perspective, you can take down bad guys with the press of a trigger in a stylized art style that helps provide variety and interest in each level. The only way you can move is by teleporting to the weapons in your enemies’ hands, so the challenge is as much about killing them as it is about how you’re going to move forward. Gaming is amazing, and the euphoria of VR has a huge impact.

Replacing sun-spotted zombies with irradiated mutants, Vertigo Games really showed its pedigree with Metro Awakening, a VR game that manages to capture the shadowy and dank atmosphere of this iconic series. Whether it’s burning off cobwebs with a lighter or wiping condensation from the visor of a gas mask, Metro Awakening hits all the immersive stops on PSVR2, delivering one of the best experiences Sony’s headset has to offer.
