Pokemon creator Game Freak has been hit by a massive hack that leaked a huge amount of behind-the-scenes details, including the Switch 2 codename.
As reported IGNover the weekend, huge amounts of Game Freak’s leaked data were made available in a somewhat unprecedented hack of the company. While it was unclear how genuine the contents of the leak were, it was later discovered that Game Freak was sent a statement confirming that in August this year there has been a data protection breach. It appears that not only information related to multiple Pokemon games was leaked, but also 2,606 cases of employee data, including current, former and contract workers.

Game Freak also apologized to everyone affected and said it had already rebuilt and checked the server that was hacked. The statement didn’t mention leaks about past and future games, but the admission that a breach occurred seems to potentially lend credence to those elements.
One of the most notable aspects of the leak is that the codename of the Nintendo Switch 2, or the console’s successor as the company usually refers to it, is apparently “Ounce.” Apparently, the codenames of the as-yet-unannounced 10th-generation Pokemon games have also been leaked, and there are mentions of other unannounced Pokemon games as well. What’s more, a huge amount of details, development notes and concept art have been shared – it goes back even further, there really is too much to mention.
Overall, the Pokemon Company has been fairly peaceful this year, as it only held one Pokemon Presents in February – this particular presentation revealed Pokemon Legends: ZA, the latest installment in the Legends series that brings players to the sixth-generation Kalos region. Typically, Pokemon Presents takes place in August, but it wasn’t there this year.
