Fortnite’s Halloween plans start to get cluttered and a social media snafu involving Doja the cat and a sex toy begins to follow

Published:

Fortnite has assembled its largest-ever Halloween crossover cast for its latest Fortnitemares celebration, including Addams Wednesday, though the announcement of the event began last night amid social media confusion involving rap star Doji Cat and the mention of a sex toy.

This year’s spooky antics partly focus on musician and self-proclaimed Fortnite fan Doja Cat, who he recently appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon to officially reveal her in-game alter ego, Mother of Thorns – and is the boss character of the event.

Last night, Fortnite featured a brief “takeover” of Doja Cat’s account X prior to the release of the above trailer. However, the idea quickly went sour when “Doja Cat” apparently made a reference to “pink toys” (a vibrating adult toy) via his Fortnite account.

Back to Doja Cat’s actual X, the rapper broke the fourth wall and claimed that all of her Fortnite posts were planned in advance and that she told Epic Games not to mention sex toys. “Damn, I’m cringing like hell, I’m ashamed now,” Doja Cat wrote, then added a wilted rose emoji. Shortly thereafter, Fortnite deleted the post referring to “pink toys.” Doja Cat subsequently deleted all of her messages relating to the incident.

Some viewers have suggested that the entire incident was planned, including Doja Cat’s typically sloppy fourth wall break. However, this theory seems to be based on Fortnite itself freely posting on its social media account about an adult toy that is followed by millions of juvenile fans, which seems unlikely.

Of course, you’ll be able to purchase the Doja Cat skin in the Fortnite store, along with a host of other celebrated faces. These include (deep breath): Wednesday Addams, Jason Voorhees, Scooby-Doo (plus Shaggy, Velma, Daphne and Fred), Grabber Black Phone, Clown Artrifier’s Art, Ghostface and… even more.

Characters from Poppy’s Playtime and REPO will also appear soon, adding to the list of Fortnite collaborations in horror-themed games. As for Fortnite itself, its spooky up-to-date gameplay extends beyond its core Battle Royale and Zero Build modes. Tomorrow, October 10, Reload’s up-to-date map, Nitemare Island, debuts, featuring a Halloween-themed town and looming castle.

This year’s Fortnitemares comes on the heels of the mega KPop collaboration Demon Hunters, which runs until November 1. In addition to having Rumi, Mira, and Zoey as up-to-date skins, HUNTR/X are also the stars of Demon Rush, their own PVE mode in the game, and various KPop Demon Hunters items are now available in the base Battle Royale gameplay.
