Fortnite developer Epic Games announced that 10.5 million players have just tuned in to Zero Hour, the highly anticipated live event where heroes from the world’s biggest franchises came out Avengers: Endgame style to save the day. Online, at least 3 million more watched the event via streaming platforms.
Iron Man, Superman, Godzilla and KPop Demon Hunters were just some of the characters that appeared in the event as top Fortnite players gathered to defeat the Dark Presence, the game’s newest Big Bad. Many of the characters featured in the event have been teased in advance, though exactly what will happen remains uncertain. And indeed, despite going through many rounds with King Kong and the Star Destroyer, the Dark Presence still remained.
Perhaps the biggest surprise of the event was how much Fortnite celebrated its beloved story, with the Dark Presence ultimately defeated thanks to Jonesy’s final decision to summon the nefarious Cube from the game.

Fans are now sharing gameplay from the event and finding numerous Easter eggs, such as characters from Steal the Brainrot appearing in the background and Hatsune Miku joining the battle while sitting on Godzilla’s head. I particularly like this fan art that overlays the Avengers: Endgame score over the “portal” sequence from Zero Hour:

There’s also plenty for Fortnite fans to digest here. As Hope herself asked herself, who was piloting the Mecha Team Leader’s mecha? (Member of the Seven?) Will the destruction of the Cube lead to the reappearance of its mothership? (Yes, see below!) And how does Epic Games plan to win next year?
After completing gameplay in the event, some players reported that their games suddenly crashed when an unexpected cutscene began to play. The video, which you can watch in its entirety below, quickly summarizes Fortnite’s clearly revamped original storyline and makes it abundantly clear that the game is once again focusing on the heroic Seven and their fight against the Cube civilization, dubbed the Final Reality.
Players then got a quick look at what’s coming next in the game (and yes, Epic Games couldn’t facilitate but make a 6-7 joke). Fortnite Chapter 7 will begin with our heroes enjoying life on a up-to-date map themed around the southern United States. There are Fortnite-style versions of Hollywood and Area 51 to explore, and fresh gameplay changes include wingsuits and rideable Reboot Vans. Everything seems pretty chill until The Last Reality’s mothership actually shows up (and promptly blows up Fortnite’s beloved Battle Bus!).
And after Thisfor those still in touch, Fortnite really was good. The game is now offline for a few hours, with Chapter 7 scheduled to come back online later this evening.
