Epic Games will effectively disable the Rocket Racing racing game from Fortnite, developed by Rocket League developer Psyonix. Less than a year ago, with the release of the fifth chapter of the free-to-play giant, the developer announced three up-to-date experiences for Battle Royale, including a Minecraft-style LEGO Fortnite and a Guitar Hero-inspired Fortnite, retitled for its own platform.
But his arcade racing game is out of fuel – or at least dangerously low. AND Reddit update from the development team tries to cover up the details, but admits that it will “say goodbye” to thematic updates like the current Inferno Island. In our opinion, this suggests that there will be no up-to-date official songs in this mode, effectively ending it.
Here’s what he adds in the post: “New tracks from the creators are released every day, so competitors always have a different place to drift, tumble and fly. There are endless starting lines you can discover.” So it looks like it will rely on community-generated content in the future.
Rocket Races have always been the least picked of Fortnite’s up-to-date modes, so we’re not terribly surprised, but it’s a bit concerning that Epic Games’ ambitions have been crushed so early. While we enjoy arcade gameplay, we always found it more simplistic Mario Kart a counterfeit would be more successful; this game always seemed a little too complicated for its own good.
An fascinating fact worth noting is that this racer probably had the most steep microtransactions overall in Fortnite, with many of its vehicles costing a fortune – so much so that Epic Games had to adjust their prices post-launch. Rocket League fans also blame the existence of Rocket Racing and its integration with Fortnite for the removal of the game’s trading system.
