Some former EA game developers have founded a fresh studio, Play by Play Games, and are showcasing their work at Race: We got Next3v3 basketball game in style NBA Street. If you haven’t heard of NBA Streetbecause he has been absent since 2007 NBA Street: Home Court (unless we count a few Korean titles online).
For now, all we have is a trailer to set the mood. It shows three unique characters showing us how to bounce a ball. It seems to be going for a comic book-style aesthetic, with the High Wire character finishing off a slam dunk with a superhero landing.
I’ve always been more NBA Jam girl, but I admit I missed the days of EA Big. Or the days when EA did absolutely everything I was interested in sports-wise.
Among the Play By Play employees is Steve Probst, former CEO of Visceral Games. interview with GamesIndustry.bizProbst said the studio’s goal is to “bring sports games back in a different way than what’s being done in the industry today.” The Run: Got Next is described as a character-driven basketball game that can be played in compact bursts, with a game lasting about 5 minutes, according to Probst. He tells GameIndustry.biz that, “When you’re playing the game, you might get beat up, but it doesn’t feel that bad,” which sounds like a sly dig.
Personally, I don’t like simulator-style sports games. I find them too sterile. Even games like WWE 2K24 I’m only interested in it because I can inject my own style into it through the creation systems. I miss the days NHL Hitz and I always get excited when something like this happens Mutant Football League is coming. I will continue to compare Race: We got Next Down NBA Jam instead NBA Streetso the climb will be hard.
Play by Play hopes that Race: We got Next ready for 2025 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
