Even those of you who don’t follow soccer will know that EA Sports has terminated its contract with FIFA, changing the name of its franchise to EA Sports FC.
While this doesn’t change games significantly, it does mean that the World Cup rights are up for grabs. And SEGA grabbed them for Football Manager 26.
To be clear for the uninitiated: Football Manager is a different kind of franchise than EA Sports FC, favoring tactics and tinkering over controller skill. However, its presentation has evolved far beyond the “spreadsheet simulator” as it was once known.
This is a multi-year contract that will begin with the addition of this year’s World Championships in the US, Canada and Mexico.
“This coincides with the future inclusion of an improved international management module in next year’s content update for Football Manager 26, Football Manager 26 on console and Football Manager 26 Touch ahead of FIFA World Cup 26,” the press release reads.
More details will be announced in due course, but essentially this means that all World Cup teams’ international kits and TV presentation packages will be included in the game.
This is a really huge deal, as long-time fans have known that Football Manager also took a year off last year while it improved its engine.
The fresh game is coming to PS5 on November 4, so you won’t have to wait too long to see how much the series has improved over the break.
