Whether you’re a novice or a seasoned veteran, we think these six tips are vital to know before you hit the road. Flintlocka risky and mysterious world.
Research thoroughly or risk being left behind
While exploring the world, if you think you can reach an area, Flintlockthere’s a good chance you will. The game has a uniquely vertical world filled with secrets that you can find by jumping or walking through gaps to fresh or hidden locations. Such off-the-beaten-path areas will often be home to necessary upgrade materials or fresh equipment which can prove to be extremely beneficial to your build, so search thoroughly to find them all, or you risk finding yourself much less powerful than you might expect in fresh areas.
Always hurry to the Temple of Inaya and the Feathers of Enki
Speaking of exploration, there are several Inaya Shrines and Enki Feathers scattered throughout the world. The former increases your total health, while the latter increases the speed at which Enki fills the Prime meter of your enemies in battle. Icons for shrines and feathers will appear on the map as you approach themSo as soon as you spot someone like that, go to them immediately to take advantage of these helpful gifts.
Prioritize weapon upgrades early on
As you find materials through exploration, you’ll soon be able to upgrade the various melee weapons, pistols, and armor you discover along your journey. It’s a good idea to stockpile materials and apply them on your favorite weapon (might we recommend the fire-based Harbinger’s Axe?), as this will raise your damage the most directly.
If you’re thorough with your exploration, as we told you to be (don’t let us down!), you should have enough materials to almost completely upgrade one weapon by the time you finish the game’s first map. This could be a significant lend a hand in what’s to come.
Be fruitful and multiply… your reputation
One of FlintlockThe most unique feature is the combat multiplier. This mechanic allows you to bet on how much Standing (experience) you will receive. By performing certain actions or defeating enemies in various ways, you will raise your combat multiplier (and therefore the total Standing you have earned) since your last trade.
You can exchange your Reputation for cash at any time by holding the left button on the D-pad, which will grant you both base experience and bonus experience points. AND multiplied amount. However, if you receive damage at any time prior to payout, Just You will receive a base amount of experience points and reset your combat multiplier.
With that in mind, try your luck against opponents with predictable or simple movesets that you feel completely comfortable fighting without taking damage. However, if you’re going to fight a boss or a tough enemy that you’re not sure you can avoid or counter perfectly, you should probably go ahead and cash in your reputation rather than risk losing your well-earned experience.
Research, prepare, execute
You’ll get the Marksman’s Musket after just a few hours of play. This long-range weapon can be used to accurately snipe enemies from afar, so be sure to scout fresh areas for enemies that may be lurking above you and take them out with a well-placed headshot – which will usually kill them in one shot.
This musket isn’t just useful for taking out enemies waiting above you though. If you’re approaching an area heavily populated with enemies on the ground, stay back and look around to see if there are any explosive barrels nearby that you can shoot to gain an advantage before engaging them in melee combat.
Keep using Enki in battle
Enki is not just along for the ride Flintlock—he is an imperative part of your toolbox. Using his curse attacks consistently in combat — especially against tougher armored foes — will build up their Prime Gauge, ultimately allowing you to unleash a powerful critical attack. Additionally, Cursed Stones, items you find while exploring, can be equipped to Enki, granting him additional status effects to apply when using his attacks in combat. Applying these status effects to your enemies can make them much easier to defeat, effectively ensuring that your adventure with Flintlock will be much less stressful.
Flintlock makes it a much more accessible experience than other Soulslikes. That said, you should take advantage of every opportunity you can when it comes to finding fresh gear and fighting more effectively in each battle.
