First patches for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 to fix crashes and controller issues in ultrawide mode are on the way

In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only widescreen. Unfortunately, no ultrawide for now. When they add support for ultrawide monitors, maybe they should call them “ultramarinewide”. Ha ha! Ha. Anyway, here’s what’s coming in the first round of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 patches.

Saber Interactive’s critically acclaimed tabletop role-playing game isn’t fully available for purchase yet — it’s set to launch publicly on Monday, September 9, but some Warhammer fans have been granted early access via the blasphemous Chaotic Preordering ritual, may the God-Emperor pity their souls. Reactions on Steam seem generally positive so far, but there are a few sore points, including the lack of support for ultrawide screens, which Saber claims I’m working on adding.

There are also reports of failures, from which the publisher Focus several possible workarounds have been outlined. If you’re experiencing crashes in general, consider disabling any overlay software you’re using, such as Riva Tuner, Afterburner, or an NVIDIA equivalent. If you notice the game crashing during the first cutscene, the publishers recommend updating to the latest version of Windows, checking that the game is running on the correct GPU, and updating your GPU driver. And if you’re encountering an infinite loading error while playing Operations multiplayer, try restarting the game—it could be a network issue or it could be related to being kicked from a team.

Personally, I think the infinite loading bugs are appropriate for a game with infinite loading bugs (Tyranid swarms). Ha ha! Ha. Anyway, here’s what to do if your controller refuses to work with the game: disable Steam Input (right click on the game > Properties > Controller > Disable Steam Input) and try connecting your controller via USB.

If none of these shenanigans get your Adeptus Astartes up and running, you’ll unfortunately have to wait for game updates. “We intend to fix all of these issues in our first patches,” promises Focus.

Failures and the lack of an ultrawide lens are not the only problems that Spice Margerine fans have to deal with when it comes to Spruce Maureen 2. As reported by EurogamerIs stench on Reddit about “hidden installation of Epic Online Services” when accepting the game’s EULA.

The Epic client installation is indeed mentioned in the EULA and “has been implemented to support optional cross-platform play between Steam and Epic players and to sync friends lists between the two stores,” as Focus explains. “However, please note that linking your Steam and Epic accounts is not required to enjoy the game. These features are completely optional and will not impact your gameplay experience in any way.”

Ugh, I need one last, awful Warhammer pun to end this post. Something related to Steam Tanks, maybe? The game tanks on Steam? Please read Brenda’s review of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 while I consult the scriptorium and try to come up with a Warhammer 40K equivalent of a “review bomb.”
