First Look at Animalities in Mortal Kombat 1 | SDCC 2024

Published:

NetherRealm has revealed that animal characters will appear in Mortal Kombat 1, marking the return of the fatality variant after a 29-year absence.

The “animalities” technique, which debuted in 1995’s Mortal Kombat 3, allowed the victor to transform into an animal and then tear apart their victim in typically gory fashion.

During a panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2024 attended by IGN, NetherRealm showed off the animalistic aspects of Mortal Kombat 1 with teaser footage. For example, Rain transforms into a pufferfish that explodes from inside of an opponent.

The fresh trailer below showed more animals, including a hyena, hippopotamus, gorilla, t-rex skeleton, and wolves ending. Of course, Scorpion turns into a scorpion. Mileena turns into a feeding mantis.

The reveal of the animals came as part of the announcement of Mortal Kombat 1’s second year of content and Khaos Reigns DLC. Kombat Pack 2 includes six more DLC characters, all of which were datamined before their announcement. They are:

  • Cyrax
  • Sector
  • Noob Saibot
  • Ghost Face
  • Conan the Barbarian
  • T-1000

Animalisms can be performed by all playable characters, and the feature will be available when Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns launches on September 24.

Meanwhile, all Mortal Kombat 1 owners will receive a free MK 95 Scorpion character skin inspired by the original Mortal Kombat (1995) film, available today.
