Just two days after revealing Ballistic, an upcoming 5v5 round-based tactical FPS game that certainly looks a lot like Counter-Strike, Fortnite continues its brazen campaign to become every other video game at once. Epic today announced Lego Fortnite Brick Life, a “social role-playing game in the world of Lego Fortnite.” Epic says the action, set in an “ever-expanding city,” will allow players to “build their own stories by interacting with both the environment and other residents.”

In other words, it’s a GTA-like RPG server, but with Lego bricks. In Fortnite.

While we can probably assume that there won’t be as much road kill in Brick Life as GTA RP allows, I challenge you to watch gameplay trailer above and NO see Grand Theft Auto, where a little Lego minifigure hops on a bike to destroy a city boulevard. And then we cut straight to the other Lego guys pulling off a bank robbery! The influences are not subtle.

Brick Life’s metropolis, Brick Bay, will feature a variety of “bustling locations” such as beaches, a seemingly haunted magic academy, restaurants, rooftop clubs and gyms where minifigures can lift weights for disappointingly few observable benefits. Through role-playing, Brick Life players can take on various in-game professions, such as Academy Professor, Security Officer, Sushi Chef, and “Scavenger”. I’m not sure what kind of CV you need for this last one.

Elsewhere in Brick Bay, players will be able to purchase empty plots of land on which to build Lego RP houses, where they can place items and decorations from the game’s furniture catalog. They will also be able to purchase “more unique” furniture from the Brick Bay furniture store. Additionally, “most packs and decoration versions” you may have already purchased as part of the existing Lego Fortnite Survival Mode will be cross-compatible with Brick Life.

Brick Life will join the Fortnite rollout in-game text chatwhich Fortnite developers will be able to add to their islands later this week. Surely this can only go well.
