Square Enix will not be expanding Final Fantasy VII Rebirth with any DLC, but it had plans to do so at some point during the RPG’s development.
Game director Naoki Hamaguchi shared Wccftech The developer had plans to create DLC for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, but after rethinking the topic, it ultimately decided to focus all its efforts on what fans really want: the third part of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy.
“We came to the conclusion that fans most wanted to release the third part as soon as possible. This would take priority over the Rebirth DLC, so we decided to take this approach.”
However, looking ahead, Hamaguchi seems open to the idea of a third game getting an expansion or potentially another “full title” after it. He explained: “With the conclusion of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy, it’s likely Final Fantasy as a whole will have a much wider audience. Whether we introduce another new DLC or a full title, that’s something we’re actively considering.”
It has been known for some time that Square Enix will not be doing anything more with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth other than porting it to more platforms. Last November, Hamaguchi said that fans “really want to see as much as possible, not necessarily DLC. They want to see the third part of the series as soon as possible.”
