In a recent interview with the creators of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, the game director expressed some bold feelings about the third and final installment.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake and its sequel Rebirth have been some of the most anticipated games by fans of the original game for years, and all the while, we’re getting closer to the final installment. Square Enix recently shared a two-hour behind-the-scenes look at Rebirth with producer Yoshinori Kitase and director Hamaguchi, with the two developers cranking up the final game to a potentially unattainable standard. “When I think about the third and final game in the Remake trilogy, it really excites me and I have such high expectations for it,” Kitase said.
“I really hope that fans have great expectations for this game, and we will deliver on that. We will definitely expand on it and make the world of Final Fantasy 7 even bigger than it already is.” The producer continued, saying that the feedback from the first two games “will be reflected in the third game,” and said it will be “exactly what the fans are looking for.” That’s a pretty bold statement, but even if the game could be released sooner than expected, it’s still likely to be a few years away.
Hamaguchi also put effort into promoting the game, perhaps even more than Kitase, saying, “The development team is hard at work as we speak, and we intend to create a game that will exceed any expectations you have for a game. I am absolutely certain that the third game in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series will be one of the most beloved, most popular games in all of video game history.”
Look, I love Remake and Rebirth, but it might be worth tempering your expectations a bit. Final Fantasy 7 is obviously a hugely influential title, but times have changed. I hope he’s right, because I think Remake and Rebirth are more compelling than some skeptics give them credit for, but let’s just peaceful down for now. Besides, I need Kingdom Hearts 4, which is currently lost, to come out first.
