Kaiju No. 8 fans, it’s time to celebrate as a second season of the sequel has been confirmed.
Last month, it was confirmed that Kaiju No. 8 would be getting some kind of sequel, but it didn’t outright say it would be another season. After all, there are plenty of series currently getting film adaptations of specific manga storylines (you can thank Demon Slayer for that). But yesterday, it was confirmed that the pretty good Kaiju No. 8 would be getting a season 2, with that second season arriving in 2025. Yesterday was the perfect day to make the announcement, since in Japanese, the series is known as Kaijū Hachigō — the word “hachi” is the Japanese word for the number eight, or the eighth month of the year, August, and “go” (without the long ō) means five, and the date is August 5th.

A fun trailer was released alongside the 2025 announcement, which you can see above, showing various clips from the anime overlaid with a filter as if they were all government footage of the various kaiju Kafka has to face off against. Along with the announcement of Season 2, it was also revealed that a compilation film of the first season is also on the way, although it’s not yet clear if it’ll be released outside of Japan. Additionally, a special episode titled “Hoshina’s Day Off” is in the works, which will be shown alongside the compilation film, so here’s hoping it makes it here somehow.

If you’re wondering where you’ll be able to watch Season 2, Crunchyroll has already announced that it will be streaming the sequel series whenever it airs next year. Beyond that, details about the fresh season are sparse, but I’m sure manga readers will have a good idea of what to expect.
