The teaser for the next season of Blood Bowl 3 contains some good news – the next teams joining the game are two of its worst teams.
Blood Bowl is not a balanced game, and that’s intentional. It’s a parody of American football, and of board games, with completely mismatched teams, which is part of its charm. The smaller, stunt teams just aren’t as good as Shambling Undead or Lizardmen. They’re born to lose.
Which isn’t to say they aren’t fun. I have a halfling team, and I consider any tie I get across the finish line a moral victory. Seeing the Season 6 teaser open with the arrival of a halfling team is a nice surprise. What’s better is that it ends with the shadow of a doomsday diver passing overhead, because this season we’re getting two teams, and the other is another stunt team: goblins.
Despite their overall weakness, each team has some advantages. The halfling team has access to treemen, essentially immobile lane-carriers who can also throw a halfling down the field if one of them is unlucky enough to get the ball. The goblins, on the other hand, are cunning tricksters who bring with them a variety of weapons and gadgets—everything from pogos to chainsaws. And trolls.
Of course, the best thing about these teams coming to Blood Bowl 3 will be their cheerleaders, though considering how rarely they score points, I doubt we’ll see them too often. Season 6 begins on September 10, and streamers with pre-launch have shown that there will be a special Goblin Vs Halfling community event so you can try them out without having to fight Dark Elves or anything. Wins will be tracked, and the team customization that earns the most victory points will be added to the store for free.
