Todd Howard recently said he wanted people to experience Fallout 1 and 2 as they were, rather than rehashing them. Well, this makes things easier: both games are currently available for free as part of the Fallout Classic Collection on the Epic Games Store.
Fallout Tactics is also free to play, but I don’t know if Todd is that cruel as to want people to experience the game as it was.
You can go to Fallout Classic Collection Store Page anytime between now and September 5 at 4:00 p.m. ET to add the bundle to your account. That means you’ll obviously need an Epic account.
I’m a Fallout 3 and later pagan, so I can only refer to your own choices for best RPGs to tell me that Fallout ranks 13th and Fallout 2 21st. Those are respectable positions for two games that are, quite frankly, venerable. (Fallout Tactics didn’t make the cut.)
Or maybe I should turn to Edwin, who revisited the original Fallout and found it to be the perfect antidote to the Fallout TV series frenzy. He also found it to be the “hardest game to get into” all these years later.
My parents have been staying with me for the past week and we haven’t had a single Fallout. On the other hand, I recently discovered my dog has fleas, so if someone wants to blow up my entire apartment, I’m fine with that.
There is currently a second free game available on Epic, and it is Wild Card Football. which you can catch here. It’s a 7-aside arcade style American football game where 150 “Wild Cards” remix the rules with invisibility, stat boosts, flying saucers and the like. Shades of brutal sports football, Maybe? Or maybe it’s just me who misses hyper-violence.
