From ray tracing to unprecedented detail in 8K resolution, discover how EA Sports and Codemasters are using groundbreaking PS5 Pro technology to F1 24 look and play better. Si Lumb, technical producer at Codemasters, shares insights on what players can expect when playing F1 24 on PS5 Pro, as well as additional details about Season 4 and the upcoming Free-Play trial.
Enhanced for PS5 Pro, F1 24 takes full advantage of the console’s exclusive technologies and enhanced graphical capabilities depending on the display option players select in the settings menu.
“PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) allows us to take the Ray Traced image to 4K without losing image quality in quality mode,” Si says. “The increased GPU power of the PS5 Pro gives us the ability to double the 120Hz resolution in performance mode, and thanks to some clever frame reordering, we even managed to put 32 million 8K pixels at 60Hz in resolution mode.”
While Ray Tracing is available on PS5 in F1 24 race replays, the power of PS5 Pro allows you to exploit the technology during track races by selecting the quality mode.
“Ray Tracing allows us to simulate delicate to raise realism, making reflections, shadows and lighting more realistic. These improvements provide a more photorealistic experience, especially on shiny and mirrored car chassis, undulating and detailed track terrain, or varied track environments. This is even more noticeable in moist conditions, where reflections from puddles or shiny surfaces play a significant role in immersion.
For the first time at EA Sports, PS5 Pro F1 24 improvements enable support for 8K/60Hz resolution when using a compatible display in resolution mode. All 25 tracks in the game have been improved both on and off the track, and with variable weather and time of day options for each track, players are sure to discover a up-to-date favorite in 8K/60Hz resolution.
“For the best presentation of 8K visualizations, I recommend Spa Francorchamps at sunset in good weather. The height changes and dense vegetation in the Spa, combined with the incredible detail and depth offered by 8K, make for a visually stunning experience. The track’s wide turns and long straights will highlight the high pixel count, while dynamic lighting and shadows create a real sense of immersion as the light moves across the track.”
By harnessing the power of PS5 Pro to work with the EGO F1 24 engine, the development team plans to push the boundaries of graphical performance in future releases.
“We’ve learned a lot from this release, and the foundations laid in F1 24 will help us leverage the power of PS5 Pro even more in the future. We are particularly interested in expanding the use of technologies such as PSSR to more modes and further optimizing ray tracing and high frame rates. Regardless of which graphics mode players choose, PS5 Pro improvements make for noticeable differences during gameplay when you first launch F1 24.

In the fourth season of F1 24, players across all PlayStation platforms will be able to race to unlock a range of up-to-date customization items, one of which will be suitable for the champion. Plus a up-to-date Pro Challenge at Austin’s Circuit of the Americas featuring Oscar Piastri and select race scenarios, including a pair from Abu Dhabi 2021, each with prizes to exploit throughout the game. For those who have not yet purchased F1 24, there is no better time, because from November 21 to 24, F1 24 will be free to download and play, with the opportunity to test the entire game, including PS5 Pro features and the double XP Podium Pass validity period. Everything from an enhanced career mode to an invigorating multiplayer mode will be available, and all progress will carry over to the full game.
