Independent video game store itch.io recently announced the next Creator’s Day falls on November 29, Engadget Reports. As such, all the money you spend there this Friday will go directly to the developers, as itch.io is waiving its usual 10% discount.
This newest Maker’s Day also falls right in the middle of itch.io’s annual Fall Sale, which runs from November 27 to December 5. The site’s massive developer community contributed over 7,400 projects to the event, which apparently includes both digital and physical games, as well as resources for creating your own.
Creator Day was established by itch.io in 2021 to support developers who are struggling to make ends meet during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Our amazing community supports us every day, and we wanted to set aside a day to give back,” Spencer Hayes, itch.io’s chief business and content officer, told Polygon at the time. “It’s been hard for a lot of people and we thought we’d help however we can.”
Itch.io is already known for its generous distribution of income – since only 10% of sales go to the store by default, this ratio is better for developers than on other platforms such as Steam, PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store and Apple App Store – but events such as Creator Day and various charity events organized on the site with they will certainly make every effort to distinguish it from more productive competitors.
