Location of Stormveil Castle
Stormveil Castle stands on the border of Limgrave and Liurni. Although you can skip the castle initially, this “main route” to Liurnia offers plenty of loot, as well as a chance to obtain the Great Fleece from Godric the Transplanted. Since you’ll need two Great Runes to gain access to Leyndell, the Royal Capital, clearing Stormveil Castle is a great place to start.
Stormveil Castle is a perilous place, so it’s wise to explore Limgrave and the Wailing Peninsula first in the order of the Elden Ring area. Once you reach at least level 30, you should be ready to enter Stormveil.
Stormveil Castle walkthrough
To get to Stormveil Castle, drive past Stormhill Shack and through the Castleward Tunnel, where you must defeat Margit, Fell Omen. Once Margit is down, you can approach the main gate.
Since the gates are closed, you need to enter the room on the left where you will find an NPC named Gostoc. He will give you a choice: enter Stormveil Castle through the main gate or take the secret path to the left. While it is possible to clear Stormveil Castle through the main entrance, it is usually wiser to follow Gostoc’s advice and take an alternate route, as the main entrance is heavily guarded.
Elden Ring Stormveil Castle walkthrough will take the easiest path, so we’ll leave Gostoc’s room through the immense gap in the wall, turn right, and jump up to the higher ledge. If you want, you can go back to the main gate of Stormveil Castle first to collect some items (when standing in front of the gate, take the narrow path to the right).
Enter the tower and follow the path on the right, which leads to a immense warehouse full of wooden barrels, crates and, unfortunately, many soldiers. You can grab the Hookclaws under the platforms (after entering the warehouse, continue straight), but to continue the Stormveil Castle walkthrough, follow the path up.
Be especially careful when approaching the first wooden stairs, because one of the soldiers will cause the barrels at the top to explode. It’s best to alert the soldier, but immediately dodge back and only continue your actions when the barrels are destroyed.
When you reach the highest platform, go through the door and defeat the Exiled Knight in the room beyond; you can gain the advantage by sneaking inside and performing magical ranged attacks, or sneaking up behind him and using your strongest physical attacks (the Banished Knight is waiting on the left side of the room). After entering, the door will be closed.
If you died in this room, you have the option to skip the fight with the Banished Knight (since the door will no longer be locked), but before leaving you must make sure you collect the Rusty Key (it’s on the dead body). Before grabbing the key, it’s best to lure the Exiled Knight away from the body. Also don’t miss the Curved Sword Talisman; is in a wooden box.
Once you have the Rusty Key, leave the room with the Banished Knight and go down to the lower floor, where you will be able to open the door with the key.
After climbing the ladder, you will notice that the path splits into two; if you go to the right you can collect additional items (fire grease and Brick Hammer weapons) which will eventually take you back to the warehouse. You can bypass this by going immediately to the left.
Follow the path until you reach a immense room at the top of the stone tower outside. Do not rush; is guarded by the Exiled Knight. If you’d rather avoid a fight, run past him when he turns around and run upstairs. At the first opportunity, go right, then left; in this room is the Place of Grace.
Take the southern exit and run past the powerful knight patrolling the road. Run into the building at the other end of the path and keep going until you enter the church with the Transplanted Scion at the bottom. It’s best not to jump into this fight right away, but when the mini-boss is at the other end of the room, you can jump off the ledge on the right and immediately run through the door to the southwest. The elevator will take you back to the last Place of Grace – from then on you can employ this shortcut.
Once you have rested, employ the elevator again. You can search the rooms on the left and right (you’ll find a Crimson Hood on the pile of corpses on the right and a chest with a Mimic Veil in the upstairs dining room), but you’ll need to open the door on the far left side of this area to head towards Stormveil Castle’s courtyard . You can sneak past the Grafted Scion, but you can also fight this mini-boss from the relative safety of the elevator.
Don’t rush into the courtyard; it will be safer to employ the door on the left, eliminate the soldier on the higher platform, and carefully reveal your presence to the soldiers outside. It is much easier to lure tiny groups of enemies into this room than to fight them all at once.
Once you’ve dealt with the patrolling soldiers, head to the courtyard and stick to the wall on the left. Eliminate the enemies surrounding the wooden rampart one by one.
While it’s fairly simple to take out the soldiers manning the crossbows (and clear the second wooden rampart to top it off), there’s no reason to do so unless you want the extra Runes. You can keep to the left side of the courtyard and pass the ogre – up, left and straight to the building with the Place of Grace.
After resting, you can choose one of two paths: employ the elevator or go outside again and employ the stairs in front of you. Both routes lead to Godric the Transplanted, but the elevator is much easier; go upstairs, cross the cracked floor with the walking pots (defeat the scarab to get the Stormmaker’s War Ash) and activate the Place of Grace in front of you. Godrick’s Arena is on the left.
Before you visit Godrick, however, it’s wise to defeat the huge ogre on the stairs outside; you can easily defeat him with ranged attacks from inside this building. Make your way to the courtyard below and get the Golden Seed standing in front of the tiny golden tree. Be sure to also visit the NPC named Nepheli; it’s behind the door on the right. After talking to her, you will be able to summon Nepheli during the Godrick boss fight.
