Elden Ring reaches 25 million units sold before Shadow of the Erdtree

Published:

Elden Ring has sold 25 million copies ahead of the June 21, 2024 release of the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, developer FromSoftware announced.

The X/Twitter post revealed the milestone of a colossal 25 million units sold and also thanked fans who purchased the game. Elden Ring publisher Bandai Namco announced that 23 million copies of the game had been sold in March 2024, which means that number has increased by another two million in less than three months.

This all comes ahead of what will likely be another sales boost for the game when its only expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, arrives.

The downloadable content will add tons of up-to-date content to the beloved RPG game. However, as with previous FromSoftware games Dark Souls and Bloodborne, accessing the DLC isn’t as plain as selecting it from a menu, as players must check off a few unrecognized feats in advance, including defeating an optional boss.

The up-to-date map, story, bosses and items are sure to add more intrigue to the near-mythical status of Elden Ring, which has proven to be a cultural phenomenon upon its 2022 release. Players have been looking for tons of different ways to interact with the game, such as using a Fisher Price toy or a Nintendo Switch Ring Fit controller, and someone even created a working VR version.

Many are therefore waiting with bated breath for the release of Shadow of the Erdtree, which will probably add hundreds, if not thousands, of up-to-date secrets and plot threads to discover. In fact, even the announcement of the release date brought droves of players back to Elden Ring.

In our 10/10 review, IGN stated: “Elden Ring is a powerful version of what FromSoftware started with the Souls series, bringing relentlessly challenging combat to an incredible open world that gives us the freedom to choose our own path.”
