Terada: We explored several different ways to play the game in parallel. In one playthrough, Link could copy and paste various objects, such as doors and chandelier, to create original dungeons. During this exploration phase, the idea was called “dungeon editing,” because players could create their own Legend of Zelda experience.
Aonuma: They showed it to me and told me to try it. As I played, I started to think that while it was chilly to create your own dungeons and let others play in them, it wasn’t so bad to place items that you could copy and paste onto the field and create gameplay where you could utilize them to fight enemies. That was the beginning of gameplay using “echoes.” The gameplay moved from creating dungeons up until that point to using copied and pasted items as tools to continue your own adventure.
