The Horsemen of the Apocalypse are war, famine, death and pestilence. The driving forces behind Apocalypse are grappling hooks, vehicle swapping, boss battles, and upgrades. You will meet all four of the latter in the video game of the same title, the combat racer from Dinosaurs Are Better (citation needed) and their publisher Bonus Stage.
If you don’t know the Scriptures or don’t read comics inspired by the Scriptures, this introduction may have confused you. Let me rephrase that: it’s a game about the convoy battles from the Mad Max movies, but with a grappling hook and wingsuit combo from Just Cause that lets you steal enemy roadsters if yours are starting to look a little bullet-riddled and explode. (Duty aside: Just Cause creators Avalanche actually created the Mad Max game, although it’s relatively ground-based.) Improvements seem to include a selection of flying drones: you can grab onto them if there aren’t any gigantic overhanging rock formations.
“The game features a series of epic boss battles where you have to make quick decisions and hone your driving skills as you battle the toughest road warriors in the wasteland,” he explains Steam page. This makes it sound like a bossrush format, which I support. Mad Max inspired games should be a crescendo. I don’t want to race to the death with a bunch of low-level idiots on barbed wire tricycles.
There is a conspiracy, it’s unbelievable. “You play as Artemis, a junior mercenary working for the Thunder Strike Force. Your mission? Stop deadly convoys, defeat powerful bosses and survive.” This isn’t much of a narrative thread, guys. At least give Artemis a surname.
Drivers of the Apocalypse will be released at some point. My growling aside, I think it looks nice. I actually only growl for word count. I hope I can get airborne enough, take a shortcut through the mountains, and land on top of the cars rushing around the corner. Stupid wasteland! This will teach you to lower the sunroof.
