Double head Strauss Zelnick says he is “delighted” with civilization 7

Civilization 7 had a rugged launch of Steam – so much is clear. The continuation of the strategy has been struggling with players on the Valve platform since its premiere in February. The reaction is “mixed”, according to the reviews of Steam users. And despite a number of patches issued by the Firaxis programmer to reverse the sentiment, Civilization 7 is in an impossible situation of having fewer players on Steam Civilization 6 And even a 15-year-old Civilization 5.

Of course, the performance of the CIV 7 steam does not paint the whole image. The game was also launched on PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch (the Nintendo Switch 2 version, which soon uses fresh Joy-Con mouse control elements). But bread and butter of civilization are PC, and there CIV 7 clearly fights.

So you might think that the mother company Firaxis Take-Two would not be best. But when talking to IGN in an interview with the company’s latest financial results, the general director of Strauss Zelnick told me that he had been “excited” CIV 7 until now.

“I have been excited so far CIV 7” – began Zelnick. “However, there were some problems initially, and our team Firaxis did a great job, dealing with these problems. There is more work to do. I am optimistic that the work will be done and will match consumers, and ultimately we have a very successful title in our hands.”

Then Zelnick pointed to the tendency of the franchise of civilization to a long sales cycle, at least compared to many other games, and his belief that CIV 7 would follow in their footsteps.

“The story of all the releases of civilization is that initially some changes that we consider among our consumers, because they love civilization franchise so much,” he said.

“And then people realize, oh, it’s really improvement and we are doing really well for a long sales cycle. I think it will happen here too.

“But undoubtedly we had some problems at the beginning, which we partially turned and continued to deal with.”

After starting CIV 7, players emphasized the problems with the user interface, the lack of variety of maps and expressed the impression that the game started without many functions they expected from the franchise.

Zelnicka’s memory of hardcore civ players who are a bit nervous about CIV 7 during the premiere, there is no doubt that the reference to some dramatic changes of Firaxis introduced to the game.

A full campaign in civilization 7 is one that has been going through all three centuries: antiquity, exploration and modernity. After the end of the century, all players (and all opponents of AI) experience the passage of age at the same time. During the passage of age, three things happen: you choose a new civilization from New Age to represent your empire, you choose which legacy you want to keep in a new era, and the world of games is evolving. Civilization games have never had such a system. Apparently Zelnick believes that CIV fans will love it in time.

Dzinny Two must still announce the sale of civilization 7, but in the financial report stated that “strives to expand the audience”, including the recent launch of Civilization 7 VR for Meta Quest 3 and 3s, as well as the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 port.
