Arc System Works, the creators behind Dragon Ball FighterZ AND Guilty Gear Striveis working on a 3D revival of the classic 2D fighting game Double Dragon. According to Famitsu (translation: Video Game Chronicle), the fresh Double Dragon game will be a remake of the 1980s Nintendo Entertainment System game from Arc System Works, using 3D-modeled characters.

Double Dragon was a fixture of arcade and console gaming in the overdue 80s and early 90s, appearing on multiple platforms and at one point teaming up with Battletoads (true). It’s revered as one of the most influential beat ’em ups of all time, with classics like Final Fight and Streets of Rage following in its footsteps.

Arc System Works has acquired the rights to the Double Dragon game and other classic beat ’em up series Kunio-Kun (River City) from Technos Japan Corp in 2015. Since then, it has released a slew of games in the aforementioned series, the most notable of which were Double Dragon 4 — created in collaboration with original series director Yoshihisa Kishimoto — and its anime-inspired spin-off, River City Girls.
