id Software announced during its QuakeCon 2024 live stream that DOOM Eternal will finally get official mod support, approximately four years after its release.
According to Bethesda’s Slayers Club blog postDOOM Eternal Update 6.66 Rev 3 adds the ability to enable mod support via the Steam beta branch. Microsoft Store version support will be added “soon,” with no mention of a console version.
Those who choose to participate in the beta branch will be able to create and publish original mods through the idStudio Beta program, which you can see above. You can find idStudio tutorials and installation instructions can be found here.
The addition of mods should add some life to DOOM Eternal, which continues to enjoy a mighty community post-launch. First released in 2020, DOOM Eternal was praised for its extensive single-player campaign and customarily awesome shooting action.

Fans have always wanted official mod support for DOOM Eternal game files uploaded to Steam backend contained references to this featurelooking forward to the possibility of adding up-to-date maps, levels and weapons.
“This is the first time idtech has been officially moddable in how many years? Holy shit. They talked about it years ago but I thought I’d never see it. The Eternal engine has so much potential and now the modding community can fully utilize it instead of being limited,” one enthusiastic fan wrote in response to the announcement. “We’ve seen hints of it on SteamDB but I didn’t expect them to give us the tools as well. This is a fever dream.”
