Later this week, Blizzard developers will sit down to discuss what we can expect from the next season of Diablo 4, Season 5. We’ll likely never know its official name, but everyone is really excited about the changes coming to the game in Season 5.
Diablo 4 has already released the PTR for Season 5, so the general outline of the story is fairly well known, but Blizzard hasn’t revealed everything yet – and that’s where this year’s showcase comes in.

We know Blizzard plans to release a developer update on Thursday, August 1. We also know it will be related to Season 5, but it looks like the upcoming season might be crazier than we imagined.
But what you may not have expected is an update to the game’s unique items. Lead Class Designer Adam Jackson posted a teaser on Twitter suggesting that Season 5 will be a gigantic one when it comes to said uniques.
Will their powers become ridiculous? It sounds obvious. “We’re getting ready to launch the Season 5 PTR livestream next week,” wrote Jackson, who has appeared on most of those livestreams on Twitter.
“I can’t stop laughing at how crazy we were with these unique changes. This is gonna be a cool stream lol.”
Community CEO Adam Fletcher, who hosts the livestreams, was also excited about Thursday’s show. Jackson’s segment will apparently be the longest.

It’s intriguing that Blizzard is clearly trying to make Season 5 more thrilling than most of us expected. Considering it comes on the heels of the massive Season 4: Loot Reborn overhaul and ahead of the launch of the game’s first expansion, Vessel of Hatred, it’s basic to assume we shouldn’t expect much from it. We’ll have to watch the show to see what Blizzard has planned for us.
