Devil’s Purge, Upcoming AR FPS, Reveals New Features at Gamescom

Published:

  • Devil’s Purge is an AR game that combines Pokémon Go and Doom
  • We’ve been keeping an eye on this for a while now, and the developers announced key recent features at Gamescom
  • Featuring featured indie metal bands that contributed to the soundtrack, as well as recent geolocation features

Yes, there are still bits of information that have been lost in the hail of large announcements since Gamescom ended. Today’s topic, Devil’s Purge, is one I’ve had my eye on for a while. It pits you against demonic entities in what the developers describe as a mix of Pokémon Go and Doom.

At Gamescom, the developers revealed that they have added two indie metal bands to the soundtrack. Men Eater and ZERO MASSIVE are the first two bands to be announced, but developer Ontop Games promises that others will join them as well.

Meanwhile, recent geolocation and time features have also been revealed. For an AR game like this, the influence of the real world on the events in the game is quite significant, and depending on the time or place, you can expect to encounter different demons that you can leave for later or exorcise on the spot.

While I’ve heard the senior saying that we want to make a game that isn’t just a gacha or match-3, I have to admit that Ontop is one developer that’s living up to their word. An AR game is ambitious at best, especially considering the complexity of the technology, even in this day and age. But at the same time, I can’t facilitate but want this type of game to succeed, if only to fill the hefty metal niche that Metal: Hellsinger carved out for me.
