The next chapter of the Destiny saga is approaching, but it’s not in the form most Guardians expected. Instead of the right one Destiny 3 from original creator Bungie, Destiny: Uprising was revealed by developer NetEase Games as a free-to-play mobile game. While the mobile market has undoubtedly come a long way in terms of delivering console-quality experiences, Destiny fans are rightly cautious about how the mass live service formula will translate. Perhaps even more vital is the story that some have invested over 10 years in. Let us act as your Spirit and guide you through all the information you need Destiny: Uprising.
Speculations regarding the release date
NetEase Games has not provided us with a release window Destiny: Uprising when the game was revealed, so all we can do is speculate. Given that there will be a closed alpha in November 2024, we anticipate that the game will not launch for at least a year after that to allow for several more open betas in 2025.
When an official date or window becomes available, we will update this section.
Platforms
The biggest shake-up from previous titles is this Destiny: Uprising will only be available on mobile devices with iOS and Android systems. If you want to check if your specific phone model will be able to work Destiny: Uprising, check official website here for details. There don’t appear to be any plans to add any PC or console ports, so if you’re going to be earning Legendary loot, make sure your mobile device is charged.
Trailers
The announcement trailer focuses mostly on gameplay, but it does feature some very impressive visuals and action that look almost as good as their console counterparts. The biggest detail the trailer reveals is that we won’t be creating our own Guardian as we usually do, but will instead be playing with pre-defined characters. Some of them are familiar faces from the Destiny world, and a few are up-to-date. Some of them we can look forward to include: Ikora Rey, Iron Lord Jolder and Kabr. Each of them is said to have their own background and personality, so it’s possible that playing out each character’s backstory would result in narrative benefits, if not a unique backstory for each of them.
Destiny: Uprising The action takes place in an alternative timeline to the basic Destiny games, but also in the distant past. We will experience another series of events as humanity recovers from the Fall and works to create the Last City. Being an alternate universe, we don’t suspect Destiny: Uprising to have a major impact on Destiny’s main story (if at all), but instead remain a standalone narrative.
Game
The switch to mobile devices did not drastically change the gameplay Destiny: Uprising. It’s still an FPS with a weighty emphasis on skills and unique weapons, although now you can also play the game entirely in third person if you prefer. From what we’ve seen, it looks like it’s trying to stay as faithful to Destiny’s core systems as possible. There will still be open zones to explore, weapons and loot to grind, and a mix of PvP and PvE content to enjoy. The game will have touchscreen control options, but was created with controllers in mind.
NetEase promises many of the same game modes we already know for both PvE and PvP content. This includes a up-to-date set of campaign missions, Haven Ops strikes, and a up-to-date raid-like mode called Gauntlet Ops. New modes we’re looking forward to include Morgran’s Prey, Legacy, and Realms of the IX, but no details have been given on what exactly they will be.
Your equipment will be slightly changed Destiny: Uprisingwhich now only allows you to carry primary and power weapons. Furthermore, the types of weapons and skills you have will depend on the character you are playing. Relics will determine what super and signature skills you have, as well as your perk set.
Pre-order
Destiny: Uprising there is no release date or window yet, but there would be no need to pre-order even if there was. It will be a free-to-play game upon release, so there will be no barriers to entry.
