The Rise of Destiny – a mobile game was announced, which is a prequel to Bungie’s popular science-fiction shooter Destiny 2 in an alternative timeline. Developed and published by Netease Games under license from Bungie, closed beta registration has already begun for what is sure to be a controversial project in the eyes of Destiny fans.
The game was announced via a flashing trailer that combines both fancy camera work and what appears to be in-game footage of various classes battling Vex, Hive, and more. Fortunately, it’s still a first-person shooter, with plenty of gunplay on display. This page has some intriguing information on the news page for interested players. First, the Closed Alpha FAQ states that the initial regions that will have access are North America and Canada. It’s also recommended to have a phone that’s at least as up-to-date as Snapdragon 845 for Android or iPhone 8 for Apple.
As for the story, that’s where it gets intriguing. In the developer preview posted on the websitestates that the game is not a classic sequel to Destiny 2, but rather an alternate timeline set in the years before Destiny 1 and 2. The announcement reads:
Destiny: Rising takes place in an alternate timeline, many years before Destiny 1 and 2. This timeline allows for a different exploration of how humanity began to rise from the ashes of the Fall, when invaders from beyond the stars brought an end to what was once a golden age. ”
Important characters like Ikora Ray will return and will apparently be playable! In the trailer, you may have seen classes using abilities they shouldn’t have access to. Well, according to the teaser: “This is an era before Guardians were fully defined, and the Hunter, Titan, and Warlock classes had not yet been established. Each character has a distinct and unique playstyle, offering a fresh and immersive experience.
The alpha version will initially be focused on PvE, but PvP modes will be available. You can sign up for the alpha version nowand will start on November 1!
