Game developer RageSquid and publisher No More Robots have revealed a sequel to the downhill biking game Descending. Descending Next is a logical evolution of the series and focuses on downhill sports such as mountainboarding and snowboarding.
The goal of RageSquid is to create Descending Next the only extreme sports game you will ever want to play. So say goodbye to Republic of Riders if you haven’t already. Although it is currently scheduled to premiere on PC and Xbox Game Pass in 2025fans can sign up for test sessions on the game’s official websiteThese sessions will take place later in 2024 and will give everyone who registers a chance to experience the next evolution Descending franchise before its full release. Considering how good the downhill biking was in the first game, I think signing up for these early tests is imperative for longtime fans.
Just a board between you and the world
Descending Next initially, it’s two sports. In snowboarding, you’ll be looking down the slopes of snowy peaks as the sun beats down and threatens to blind you with the beauty of the natural landscape. In this sport, the emphasis will be on avoiding jutting rocks and making the most of the air you can catch as you launch off the jump.
In mountainboarding, you ride what amounts to a very long skateboard over the most rugged terrain possible. The sport is all about avoiding more than a few rocks, so you’ll be turning almost constantly, trying to hit jumps as brisk as possible to maximize your potential tricks.
Both sports emphasize tricks and speed, which I think is ideal. However, if they seem too extreme for you, maybe stick to Nintendo Switch Sports. The points you earn are vital because Descending Next also offers an online multiplayer mode where you can compete with others in a myriad of game modes. Every event you participate in, offline and online, earns you reputation, which you can utilize to buy novel boards and gear, allowing you to create the perfect custom rider.
The last game combined procedurally generated tracks and some set tracks. Descending Next has a more fluid system that creates tracks that sound more organic, procedurally generated, and offer an uncompromising experience that’s never the same.
One thing I don’t know Descending Next but what will his roadmap look like after the premiere. From the premiere in 2018 Descending regularly released novel content that kept the game intriguing and engaging. I would expect RageSquid to do the same with the sequel, adding at least novel biomes and thematic content packs.
In addition to the noisy Monstercat soundtrack that will make the hours spent playing fly by, the game has a variety of game modes that will keep you entertained no matter how long you play. From uncomplicated sprints to run as brisk as you can, to scavenger hunts that force you to explore deeper and risk it all or come home with nothing, it certainly feels like Descending Next has something to offer everyone.
