There are some amazing games released this year and we wanted to know which one you think is the best of the best. That’s why, together with our partners at Truth, we selected 64 of the best games of 2024, placed them in a head-to-head tournament and let you vote for your favorites. After six rounds of voting and a total of over 1 million votes, one game emerged as the champion: Black Myth: Wukong.

An action game from developer Game Science, Black Myth: Wukong is inspired by the classic Chinese novel “Journey to the West”. You play as the Destined One, an anthropomorphic ape based on Sun Wukong from the novel. You wield a staff with different stances, have access to several magical spells, and when defeated can transform into enemies.

IN IGN reviewwe cited fantastic combat, stunning environments, and well-designed bosses as areas where it shines. While he may not be a soul, his combat can be quite challenging, requiring a combination of quick reflexes, smart resource management, and versatile attacks to defeat multiple bosses.

Black Myth: Wukong’s popularity was obvious from the very beginning of our fan-voted tournament. He had a dominant run, culminating in a victory over Marvel Rivals in the finals, earning 59% of the votes. Previously, he had to play through Harry Potter: Quidditch Championship, Star Wars Outlaws, Mario & Luigi: Brotherhood, Stellar Blade and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, beating them all with at least 67% of the votes.

The fight to advance to the finals was more fierce, as they narrowly defeated Silent Hill 2 remake in the semi-finals and Astro Bot in the quarter-finals, which was one of the fiercest matches in the entire tournament. Over 50,000 votes were cast in this matchup, with Marvel Rivals winning by just 960. Before these close calls, he had to beat out stiff competition in World of Warcraft: The War Within, Batman: Arkham Shadow and Indiana Jones, and The Great Circle.

IGN choose the best game of 2024 made it to Metaphor: ReFantazio, but didn’t make it past the first round of the People’s Choice Tournament. Mario & Luigi: Brothership beat out this competition before falling on its way to the Black Myth: Wukong title. Indie darling Balatro, one of IGN’s runners-up for Best Game of 2024 and winner of our Award for the best computer game of 2024also had a surprisingly compact period. After a narrow victory over Still Wakes the Deep in the first round, it only received 26% of the votes against Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 in the second round.

Overall, Space Marine 2 performed very impressively, beating out many gigantic names on its way to the Final Four. In addition to its spectacular victory over Balatro, it also beat out Sons of the Forest, Dragon’s Dogma 2, and Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth, another of IGN’s Best Game of 2024 runners-up. The other member of the Final Four was Silent Hill 2, which won IGN Award for Best Horror Game of 2024. He got to the semi-finals after completing Life Is Strange: Double Exposure, Helldivers 2, Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD and Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero.
