Daredevil: Born Again timeline complicates MCU after Netflix premiere

If there’s one thing Marvel has done in the last five years, it’s screwed up your concept of time. Multi-faceted messes aside, we finally know when the upcoming Disney+ series is coming Daredevil: Reborn Taking place in the Marvel timeline, things just got a little more confusing.

The last season of Netflix Daredevil The series takes place in 2017, well before Thanos vaporized half of the Earth at the end Avengers: Infinity War. How reported by Collider, Daredevil: Reborn actor Wilson Bethel recently told Fan Expo San Francisco that the upcoming Disney+ series is set five years after Netflix’s final season. After such a long time, we can expect fully formed characters who have been through a lot.

“The action begins five years later. Theoretically, these are characters who have lived five years of life and all the twists and turns that happen in the meantime.”

Daredevil: Reborn leading actor Charlie Cox first mentioned these changes during: Empire interviewlooking at the up-to-date show’s timeline: “Matt has come to terms with his role as both lawyer and vigilante.” Although this may be a new development for Daredevil the series itself, will not be fully part of the Marvel canon. Cox appeared on Marvel’s She-Hulk: legal advisor, which takes place in 2023 and also appeared in Spider-Man: There’s no way home which takes place at the end of 2024. This would situate the upcoming one Daredevil series as the predecessor of these two appearances.

In these two speeches we have a sense of a newfound identity balance. IN She-Hulk, we see Cox as lawyer Matt Murdock advising fellow lawyer Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany) to use her superhero powers as She-Hulk to bring justice when the law does not work, showing that he has come to terms with the duality of his role in the world. He also showed this balance after having sex with her and displaying what may be the first step of Marvel superhero shame in full costume.

The same goes for his performance in Spider-Man: There’s no way home when he gave legal advice to Peter Parker and reflexively grabbed a brick thrown through Parker’s window. When Parker, who usually has the fastest reflexes in any room he is in, asks how he did it, Murdock again emphasized the balance between lawyer and vigilante, saying that his superhuman feat was the result of being a really good lawyer.

Everything’s fine, but Daredevil: Reborn will have to show us how this fits into all the events that have happened in the five years since the Netflix series premiered. We still don’t know who Daredevil the universe was hit by Thanos’ Infinity Gauntlet. The action of the series also takes place before the events of Avengers: Endgamewhen everyone who had previously evaporated was brought back. Since the series takes place before the reversal of Thanos’ genocidal actions, at least now we know that Daredevil survived this moment.

WITH Daredevil: Reborn set between two of the most critical moments in MCU history, there’s the potential for plenty of chilly Easter eggs throughout the series that tie into this story. These moments should give us a sense of time, even if it’s Marvel’s confusing version.
